Shrill Opus

In memory of: La Callas
From “A Fine Line”

Do a little dance

In your head

A shrill opus

Of unending delights

Dance and sing

Eat and drink

Wine, whine, and dine

Dream a little joy

In your sleep

Because when you wake up

It’s back to the mundane

The depressive

The shrill cries of doom

Of unending loneliness

Maladjusted misunderstands

Of peripheral blindness

Next to you

You have never felt so lonely

At times you wander off

Yet you manage to return

You’ll take it

Endure it for now

A few hours of love

Followed by weeks of neglect

Of hollow hope

Sometimes praying
