Elsewhere

From “A Fine Line”

Elsewhere they are sick

Ill and depraved

Deprived of any comfort

At war

Dead, moribund

Or worse, ignorant

They are faint of heart

Poor

Starving

Famished, and not only for food

Elsewhere they lay dead in the snow

They kiss first cousins

They kill and mame

Rape, pillage, stab

They wound each other

Infinitely

Indefinitely

There’s to be no healing inside

Ever

Elsewhere

Elsewhere, somewhere far off, I see flowers

They bloom in a garden

I see marshy dales near the Irish coast

Elsewhere desert sunsets

Elsewhere sunny beaches

Colourful ocean floors

Rain forests

I see love

Oh, pure love

I see it

Sigh

And die
